I have been working in the field of Materials Science for the past fifteen years. Having spent some time abroad, I am now a permanent researcher at CNR NANOTEC, Lecce, Italy. Before the νόστος, I served for 9.5 years the Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering and CICECO–Aveiro Institute of Materials, University of Aveiro (UA), Portugal.

You can find some information about my reserch statistics, those fancy for never getting funded, in Scopus. My Kardashian index (K―index) is 0.19.

My current research interests are:

  • Energy materials for sustainable hydrogen generation and storage

  • Inorganic visible-light photochromic nanomaterials

  • Multifunctional TiO2-based photocatalysts. With tuneable/coupled optical-electrical-sensing properties

  • Photocatalysis for antipollution, self-cleaning and antibacterial self-sterilising materials. Photocatalysis & pollution abatement

Some other stuff I have done:

  • Topic Editor for the journal Nanomaterials

  • Invited speaker at CIMTEC 2018 held in Perugia, Italy, June 4-8 2018. Symposium CM: Science and Technology for Silicate Ceramics

  • Invited speaker at the 9th International Conference on High-Performance Ceramics (CICC-9), held in Guilin, PRC, November 4-7 2015

  • I was an Editorial Board Member of Nanoscience & Nanotechnology-Asia

  • I was in the scientific program committee of the ICAFMC2018, held in Barcelona, Spain, September 5-7 2018

  • I was in the scientific program committee of the IWMSE2018, held in Xi'an, PRC, May 18-20 2018

  • I was in the scientific program committee of Nano-Micro Conference 2017, sponsored by the Nature Research Society, and held at the Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, PRC, June 19-23 2017

I am expert in Rietveld crystal structure refinements and full quantitative phase analysis with advanced X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) methods, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), microstructural characterisation – via an advanced XRPD method, the whole powder pattern modelling (WPPM) – optical spectroscopy, and surface functionalisation of ceramic materials. I also have experience in HR-TEM, FT-IR and Raman spectroscopy.

I have established and maintained several collaborations, the most relevant include: Centro Ceramico Bologna (Italy), University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy), University of Trento (Italy), University of Messina (Italy), Polytechnic University of Marche (Italy), University of Bath (UK), University College of London (UK), Queen Mary University of London (UK), Universidad de Zaragoza (Spain), University of Patras (Greece), ZAG Ljubljana (Slovenia), and Shanghai Institute of Ceramics (China).
